Behind the Scenes – Denver Boudoir Photography

The other day I was having a conversation with my husband about my photography, about what it means to me and what this experience does for my clients. Somewhere in the midst of me talking about my passion I dropped the word ‘boudoir’ and the more we talked the more I realized, sometimes I just don’t fit that mold. At one point he said to me “What you do isn’t really boudoir.” Which of course left me appalled haha! “Then what is it?” And he simple stated, “Blush & Tease”.

I cannot explain in a blog what these ‘boudoir’ sessions mean to me. My client reviews are a great insight to their experience, however its not yours. Every woman is so so different and until you experience Blush & Tease for yourself…this is the closest I can give you.

When I decided to film a behind the scenes video to promote my boudoir photography in Denver, Jamie (Taylor Rowe Portraits) came to my rescue. I have the best hair and makeup artist in Denver (Makeup by Heather B.) and a great spot to shoot. I just needed a model. BUT if you know me, you know I don’t work with models. So against the advice of many people, I went looking for a woman. The woman who is my client is real, unsure of stepping in front of a camera, a little terrified to see her flaws, nervous about posing, and maybe even doubting that she should go through with it at all.

“I am a stay at home mom to a 3 year old little boy…I asked if there was a certain body type you were looking for because after having a child I’ve struggled with the way it changed my body…When I saw your post, 2 things crossed my mind, the first was nope, I would never do that. But my second thought was, why not just ask.”

The woman who is my client is also brave, ready to be vulnerable, let her guard down, and fall in love with the woman that so many people around her already adore.

“I don’t have a perfect body, but I’m proud and amazed at the life it has created, housed, and nourished and because of that, it’s perfect for me! I continue to try and find beauty in my imperfections and starting this new year I want to try and find myself again. I am a mom, but that is all I have been these past 3 years and I have lost myself in the process…I think that doing this, if I was a fit for what your looking for, would be a way to boost the process of finding me, loving my body and showing others that all body types are unique and beautiful.”

Meet Ms. S. I’m so thankful that she was brave enough to reach out to me when I was looking for a “model” for my video. She is the perfect fit. She is my client.

Before the shoot: “I’m freaking out a little bit.”

After the shoot: “I definately enjoyed the experience! Im so glad I got to be a part of all of this as scary and as nervous as I was.”

After seeing the video: “The video looks like so much fun! It reminds me of what a great day I had and I’m jealous its not everyday…There are definately a few moments I can see how nervous I was and some of my imperfections but in the end it turned out great. I really hope a lot of people can relate because I’m not perfect, and it made me not only feel beautiful, but see the beauty in my imperfections.”

If you’re still with me after THAT long blog post I have one question for you, what are you waiting for?
